Whims ("we," "us"), accessible at whims.fun and operated by Whims LLC, is a private, invite-only app used by a small group of families to share and coordinate spontaneous kid activities. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how it's protected. Whims is not a public product — access is limited to people who have been personally invited and approved.
When you sign in with Google: we receive your name and email address. We use this only to verify your identity and match it against our list of approved members — we do not request or receive access to your Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, or any other Google data.
When you request access: the first name, last name, email address, and who invited you, as entered on the request form.
When you use the app: the activities ("Whims") you post, including title, date/time, location, and any notes you add; your RSVP responses to other activities; and which family you're associated with.
Whims is designed to be used by parents and guardians, not by children directly — all members must be at least 18 years old. Within the app, people and households are identified by family name, not by any child's name. There is no dedicated field in Whims for a child's name or other identifying information, and we do not require or request it anywhere in the sign-up or approval process.
That said, Whims does include free-form fields — such as an activity's notes, or an optional short "kid code" field meant for something like "oldest" or initials — where a member can type anything they choose. If a member chooses to type a child's name or other identifying details into one of these free-form fields, that text is saved exactly as entered. We strongly encourage every member to use initials or general descriptors (for example, "oldest" or "the twins") in these fields instead, and to use caution about what they choose to type — Whims has no way to detect or remove identifying information entered this way, so this remains each parent or guardian's own responsibility.
Information is used only to operate the app for its members: verifying who's approved to join, displaying the shared calendar and activity list to other approved members, and letting members coordinate RSVPs. We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or share it with third parties for marketing purposes.
Only other approved, verified members of this specific group can see activities, RSVPs, and family names. Access is enforced at the database level, not just in the app's interface, so this holds even against direct attempts to bypass the normal app screens.
Data is stored using Supabase, a database and authentication provider, with access restricted to verified, active members and the app's administrator. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
To maintain an accurate shared history for the group, most records (including past activities and access requests) are retained rather than deleted, though activities can be hidden from view ("removed") by the person who created them. Access to the app can be paused at any time by the administrator. If you'd like your account paused or have questions about information associated with you, contact us using the details below.
